Challenge
The United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) required new process design and a program to enroll and monitor all persons storing or using biological select agents and toxins (BSATs) within the institute.
Solution
Romanyk Consulting identified several issues complicating USAMRIID's ability to effectively monitor and report on biosurety information. These issues coupled with new regulations, new inspection criteria, as well as an ever changing workforce provided for data inconsistencies and reporting impossibilities. The main issues and our focus for solutions were in the following:
- Basic Process and Workflow Automation was not Implemented
- Information and Data was being Maintained in Multiple, Disparate Sources
- Information Validation was Extremely Difficult or Impossible
- An Ever Increasing Number of Personnel Gaining Access to BSATs
Benefits/Outcome
- Consistent integration points for human resource, safety, security, personnel reliability, biological select agent and toxin training, and inventory data. The premise being that data be entered one time, in one place, and be shared across multiple integrated systems.
- Enhanced adaptability to research demands alongside effective resource management of cleared and trained employees. This lead to the generation of on-demand reporting plus forms creation down to the individual employee level for the certification and monitoring process.
- Continuous monitoring of all safety training requirements and status.
- Continuous monitoring of all clearance requirements and status.
- BSAT inventory, tracking, and monitoring through personnel training and clearances.
