Brooke Army Medical Center Mass Casualty Audit

Challenge
Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) needed to evaluate issues and concerns related to a federal mass casualty exercise.  The exercise audit needed to address command and control response functions, communications, patient identification and condition status, decontamination team recall and positioning, as well as patient reception capability post decontamination.  The challenge facing BAMC in response to these issues was how to be better prepared for potential situations.

Solution
Our team at Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) was asked to assist in creating an integrated Emergency Management Plan (EMP) for BAMC.  RCC reviewed all documentation as well as conducted interviews of those involved in the exercise.  The EMP integrated various government entities, assisted in the creation of an EMP website, involved BAMC balance scorecard as well as overall strategic planning, fulfilled JCAHO EMP matrix, plus audited the clinical practices and support involved in a mass casualty state of affair.

Benefits/Outcome
BAMC is better prepared due to improvements and establishments initiated in the EMP.  BAMC has reengineered organizational information, established communication with needed government entities, improved training as well as held regularly scheduled testing, implemented automated information systems, and much more. BAMC is more organized to respond to and receive triage as well as treat and track patients received during a local disaster.
