Challenge
The Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC) has experienced significant growth in the number of laboratories they work with. With considerable growth, AAALAC sought outside assistance to analyze their processes in order to provide the excellent service they currently offer to an ever growing number of laboratories. AAALAC searched for process improvement and reengineering opportunities to improve service without increasing their overall costs.
Solution
AAALAC teamed up with Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) to conduct a review of their workload and process analysis. Our collaborative goal was to analyze the process flow at AAALAC to realize solutions for improvement in the following:
- Customer Service & Satisfaction
- Quality of Service
- Efficiency of the Quality of Service
RCC analyzed over 35 specific processes to identify opportunities and potential improvements. Our team mapped out AAALAC processes, analyzed specific tasks, worked with specific area personnel to formulate improvements, as well as quantified and presented recommendations. Our recommended solutions were based on process inputs as well as outputs and exercised proven tools in process flow mapping, time based analysis, value added analysis, interviews, and process owner involvement.
Benefits/Outcome
RCC presented recommendations jointly created with AAALAC for
significant improvements. Opportunities were discovered that would reduce required process time significantly, thus creating a more efficient process with the same allotted resources. Furthermore, additional improvements identified opportunities where customer wait time could be reduced to half of its current time. RCC also believed AAALAC could benefit greatly from an information technology assessment that would align their various platforms and systems with the process improvements discovered in our workload and process analysis. Our team additionally offered to provide assistance in the implementation and achievement of our recommendations. |
