Minneapolis Indian Health Board Clinic

Challenge
The Minneapolis Indian Health Board Clinic (MIHBC) needed to have a healthier understanding of the functions, interactions, issues, flow of processes and information between departments, opportunities, and improvement effort prioritization within their organization. They were challenged to serve a larger population and needed change to effectively serve their customers. Services and processes within the organization required attention to overcome organizational obstacles.

Solution
Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) was contracted to perform an organizational assessment of the MIHBC. This allowed both parties to effectively assess and better understand the issues and concerns in the clinic. RCC provided a formal report outlining our methodology in the organizational assessment, our discoveries as well as recommendations, plus the next steps that need to be considered to create a more effective clinic. Our team utilized proven tools such as communication and relationship mapping, skill based analysis, in-depth interviews, as well as span of control analysis. The overall focus of our findings and recommendations were to:

  • Improve Communication
  • Improve Customer Service
  • Improve Employees Quality of Life

Benefits/Outcome
RCC developed a six step process, or road map, to gui de the MIHBC in successful implementation of organizational change. These steps were as follows, clarify your need, define your results, produce your plan, implement your plan, stabilize your outcome, and finally assess the process. MIHBC has used these steps alongside the specific recommendations provided by RCC for the clinic to redesign, reorganize, and rethink. Achievements have been made in organizational span of control, regular reporting of performance, and reorganizing the clinic around core competencies and functional processes.
