Zain Iraq Program Management Office

Challenge
Zain Iraq has experienced triple digit growth since 2004. Managing exponential growth like this and dealing with the security situation on the ground represented an enormous challenge to the management team. Furthermore, Zain Iraq is part of a much larger corporate operation and had to align its targets as well as objectives with expectations of Zain Group. In order to effectively manage resources, meet goals and objectives, plus continue to build a strong organization, it was essential that Zain Iraq have a clear plan as well as a means to monitor precisely the execution of that plan.

Solution
In 2004, Zain Iraq contracted with SLMM International, the international partner of Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC), to build their Program Management Office (PMO) and work with the executive team to structure the Executive Committee (ExCom). The PMO created by SLMM International is essentially the keeper of the plan serving as the bridge between strategy and execution.

Benefits/Outcome
The senior management team of Zain Iraq and the Zain Group has weekly Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and program status th at reflect the precise nature of their business at any time. Using the PMO/ExCom combination has allowed Zain Iraq to not only meet their targets each year, but be a leader in EBITDA contribution to the parent corporation.
