Waco, TX

Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) provided architectural and engineering services to relocate the hospital canteen to Building 202 for Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) on the Doris Miller Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Waco, TX. RCC conducted site and field investigations (including topographic, soil, chemical, mechanical, electrical, etc.). Our team investigated existing conditions, functional relationships and detailed requirements. The project required a structural engineer to evaluate floor structure and the condition of floor joist and decking.

RCC's team summarized findings and provided the results to the VA. RCC prepared comprehensive design drawings and specifications. RCC also provided construction period services (CPS) including periodic site visits, logged and answered RFIs, reviewed proposed changes, and participated in punchlist and final walk-through.

The renovation created an appropriate environment for patients and personnel of Veterans’ Canteen Service (VCS). The project spaces consist of a dining room, food preparation, serving line, walk-in freezer and coolers, dry storage, retail store, storage rooms, barber shop, and other supporting spaces as required by VCS guidelines. The project was phased as to not interrupt the daily operations of the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS), which remained in service during construction.
