Mather New Clinic Building

Design Social Work and Expand Clinic Space 612-163

Department of Veterans Affairs

VISN 21 - Sacramento VA Medical Center - VA Northern California Health Care System

Mather, CA

Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) designed a new 13,000-square-foot building for Home-Based Outpatient Primary Care and the Consolidation of Social Work and Home TeleHealth support on the Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS), Mather Campus in Sacramento, CA.

The facility provides a modified PACT Primary Care Outpatient Clinic for homeless veterans on the first floor and mental health services (i.e. Social Work and TeleHealth) on the second floor. The architectural style blends with the existing campus appearance in color and materials. The following spaces are included within the new facility: Lobby, reception, waiting area, nurses offices, workroom, education room, exam rooms, counseling room, and a locked storage room.

Before proceeding with design development on this project on a tightly constrained and congested existing campus, RCC prepared numerous and interconnected due diligence site studies necessary to determine a preferred development concept. The final chosen site is a new green site that required extension of utilities to the new site.

The design team worked closely with the local VA project team including medical staff, members of the local executive office, and engineering team to integrate standard VA space plan criteria with the new Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) initiatives. Our team developed schematic floor plans, site plan, and interior and exterior renderings to accurately illustrate the VA’s clinic requirements. Additionally, RCC tailored technical requirements for MEP engineering systems, structural elements, equipment and furniture lists, sustainability goals for LEED Silver certification, and physical security.
