Department of Veterans Affairs

VISN 15, Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital

Columbia, MO

Romanyk Consulting Corp. (RCC) prepared all design documentation to construct 6,490 square feet of space on the 3rd floor, including a 6,290-sq.-ft. Hematology / Oncology clinic and all the associated support areas for the clinic. The renovated basement floor (6,290 sf) contains pharmacy offices and compounding rooms and include all associated support areas.

The existing structure was originally designed to support two additional floors. RCC was hired because the 3rd floor design, completed by another firm does not meet USP 800. RCC revised the design to meet those requirements and then prepared a new construction bid package.

Additionally, this project constructed a portion of the basement and eastern portion of third floor while preserving the potential ability to construct a fourth floor in the future. This project extended, relocated and added utilities and equipment as necessary. The overall construction budget for this project was $3,645,000. RCC was also required to incorporate bid items into the bid documents to allow for a 20% budget reduction.

The project was constructed in an existing structure that remained in service throughout the construction project. The design will ensure/ ensured full functionality can be maintained throughout the construction.

This project included demolition, new construction of architectural systems, electrical power and lighting (replacing with LED fixtures), HVAC systems, plumbing systems, data/voice, and interior finishes. The project uses all current VA standards and meet all current codes for mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and life safety. All spaces requiring USP 800 requirements are designed to meet all USP 800 requirements. All spaces are designed to meet the Inter-agency Security Committee and other relevant physical security guidelines.
